ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners Thursday unanimously approved three construction waivers on behalf of Allentown’s Swain School for it’s new soccer field and accompanying rain garden to be located in the front of the school adjacent to 24th Street.

The school’s $250,000 project, estimated to be completed in spring 2019, needed three grading waivers approved by the board, all of which were reviewed by Salisbury’s planning commission.

The waivers include those for land slope, a rain garden or detention basin liner situated next to the athletic field, and fencing requirements.

Sage Design of Allentown president Joe Landrigan said the soccer field will occupy the school’s front yard, while alongside the rain garden an outdoor classroom with tiered amphitheater-style seating will be featured for environmental education purposes.

He added that a partial fence will be installed to separate the rain garden from the soccer field.

The project will take nearly a year to complete and will be funded primarily with alumni contributions, according to Shannan Schuster, Swain’s head of school.
